Quick answer
The law of assumption vs law of attraction comes down to where the focus sits. The law of attraction is often taught as feeling good to draw things in. The law of assumption says what you accept as true about yourself is what you live. You assume it is done, and the outside catches up.

Lots of people find the law of assumption vs law of attraction confusing. The names sound alike. The ideas overlap. And plenty of posts use them as if they are the same thing.
They are close cousins, but they are not twins. Once you see the difference, a lot of worry falls away. Especially the worry that you have to feel amazing all day to get what you want.
The short answer
Think of two friends giving you directions to the same cafe.
One says, follow the good feeling and you will find it. The other says, it is already on the corner, just walk there like you know.
Both friends want you to get your coffee. They just talk about it in a different way. The law of attraction tends to talk about feelings and drawing things toward you. The law of assumption talks about what you take as true, here and now, before you see it.
On this blog we teach the law of assumption. If you are brand new, what the law of assumption is gives you the full picture.
What the law of attraction says
The law of attraction is usually taught as like attracts like. Feel good, and good things come. Think about what you want, and it moves toward you.
In that version there is often a lot of talk about mood. People feel they must stay happy, avoid bad days and keep every thought bright. When they have a low moment, they panic that they just pulled in something bad.
That is where many people get tired. Nobody feels great all the time. If your wish depends on a perfect mood, every bad day feels like a step back.
Your mood can wobble. Your assumption is what you come back to.
What the law of assumption says
The law of assumption starts from a different place. It says your life shows what you assume, meaning what you quietly take for granted.
You do not pull your wish toward you from far away. You decide it is already yours and you think from there. The community calls this living in the end. It means you picture and talk to yourself as if the wish is already done.
Feelings are welcome, but they are not the engine. Repetition is. You can say your new line in a flat voice on a grey Tuesday and it still counts. Your mood can wobble. Your assumption is what you keep coming back to.
This is also why the law of assumption is more than positive thinking. You are not trying to be cheerful. You are changing what you accept as normal.
This idea comes from the teacher Neville Goddard. For more, read Neville Goddard vs the law of attraction.
Law of assumption vs law of attraction, side by side
Here is the difference between the law of assumption and the law of attraction in plain lines.
- Focus. Attraction often talks about drawing things in. Assumption talks about accepting it is already done.
- Feelings. Attraction often says feel good first. Assumption says repeat the new story, and feelings can come later or not at all.
- Bad days. Attraction can make a bad day feel risky. Assumption says you cannot mess it up. You come back to the story and carry on.
- Where it starts. Attraction often points outward. Assumption points to you, your self concept and what you assume about yourself.
Some people also ask about the law of detachment. That usually means letting go of how and when your wish arrives. The law of assumption already has this inside it. The how is not your job.

Which one should you use?
Use the one that feels like home. Many people try the law of attraction first, then find the law of assumption and feel a wave of relief. Suddenly they do not have to police every mood. They just have to keep their story.
If that sounds like you, you are in good company. You do not have to feel good to manifest. You only have to assume.
And you do not need to throw away anything you learned. If you liked picturing your wish or writing lists, keep doing that. Just do it from the end, as if it is already yours.
The Law of assumption 101 course walks you through the basics one small lesson at a time, so you can feel sure of the idea before you try anything new.
Try this today
- Write your wish as one sentence in the past tense, as if it already happened.
- Say it once in a flat, ordinary voice. Notice that it still counts.
- Next time a bad mood shows up, say your line anyway.
Questions people ask
Can I use both at the same time?
You can. Many people keep the parts they like from each. The key idea to hold is the law of assumption one. It is already done, and your mood does not decide the ending.
Is one faster than the other?
Speed is not set by the name of the method. What matters is how steady your story is. When you stop checking and keep assuming, things can move very fast.
Do I have to feel good with the law of assumption?
No. Feeling good is lovely, but it is not required. You can repeat your new story while tired, bored or grumpy. Repetition is what makes it feel normal.
Is testing the law of attraction bad?
Testing just means you are curious, and that is fine. The only thing to notice is the story behind the test. If you test from it will never work, try a new story first. Assume it works for you.
